The 2011 Award
First Story and the Art Room

The 2012 ARMA will be run at The Art Room, Robert Blair School,  Islington, London.  The winning artist will be required to run 12 full day workshops held weekly at The Art Room, working with children aged 7 - 11.  The artist will be working with three groups of 8 children during the day in sessions lasting approximately 2 hours.  These groups will remain the same over the 12 week period.
The residency will run from April through to mid July.

The artist is expected to produce a finished artwork for permanent public display in response to the residency. This will be for display at Robert Blair School. The installation can be either for an interior or exterior venue and there is an opportunity to use a roof garden at the school for the siting of an artwork.

Please note that while it is helpful to the panel to have an idea of what your final work will be, we are looking for ideas that can respond to the residency experience rather than a fully thought through commission.  When the artist begins the residency they will be a given a site visit after which they can choose a place for the work to be displayed.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR ANY SITE VISITS PRIOR TO WINNING THE AWARD AND YOU ARE REQUESTED NOT TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL DIRECTLY.

For 2012 the ARMA panel are looking for a 3D installation at the school.

Please note that The Art Room is unable to provide studio accommodation and it will be the artist's responsibility to make arrangements for such a facility if required.
Please note the Award includes all expenses such as travel, materials and artist's time.
The selection of the artist will be made on the following criteria:
·    Relevant previous experience.
·    Strength of the proposal put forward.
·    The proposed working process/media.
·    Examples of previous work and the suitability of the proposed work for public display.

The appointed artist will need to pass a Criminal Record Bureau check to ensure they are cleared to work with young children.
