The Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust

The main purposes of the trust, established in 1972 by Max Reinhardt, a book publisher, were to initiate research into the causes of Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA) and to support institutions in aid of the deaf.

Notably the Trust initiated and funded several research projects into DBA over a period of years at St. George's Hospital in London. It funded programmes to detect deafness in newborn babies in conjunction with the Hearing research Trust (now called Deafness Research UK), and it contributed to the building programme at the Speech, Language and Hearing Centre in Christopher Place, London.

The Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust in conjunction with Paintings in Hospitals is pleased to be sponsoring the yearly Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award in memory of Alexandra whose artistic talent helped her to deal with her lifelong potentially fatal anaemic condition (DBA) and her severe hearing handicap.
